CCPM Launches, and Opens a National Public Consultation
The Canadian Council for Paramedical Micropigmentation is taking shape, and we're inviting the whole community to help decide what it should become.
Today marks the beginning of the Canadian Council for Paramedical Micropigmentation (CCPM), a new organization being formed to explore, and, if the community agrees, to help establish, a national standard for restorative paramedical micropigmentation in Canada.
Restorative paramedical micropigmentation, work such as 3D areola restoration after mastectomy, scar camouflage, and vitiligo camouflage, sits at the meeting point of clinical care and artistry. Yet practitioners across Canada currently train through very different pathways, follow varying standards, and work under regulations never designed for this specialized field. Patients, healthcare professionals, and insurers often have little guidance on qualifications, safety, or appropriate referral.
We believe the time has come for a national conversation, and we want it to be genuinely open.
Rather than arrive with fixed answers, we are beginning with a public consultation. We are inviting practitioners, educators, surgeons, nurses, oncology and cancer-care professionals, public health representatives, insurers, legal and regulatory professionals, patient advocates, survivors, and members of the public to share their perspective on professional standards, education and certification, safety, scope of practice, collaboration with medicine, accessibility, and the potential role of a national body.
This consultation will not predetermine the outcome. Its purpose is to understand whether such an organization is genuinely needed and, if so, what responsibilities it should carry.
